Toyota Indonesia Exports Decrease Six Percent

Toyota Indonesia noted that the export activities of its cars in intact form or build-up (CBU) fell six percent in January-April 2019 to 61,600 units compared to the same period last year of 65,700 units.

Director of Administration, Corporate and External Relations of Toyota Motor Manufacturing Indonesia (TMMIN) Bob Azam said the decline in exports was affected by the global economic turmoil, especially economic conditions in export destination countries such as the Philippines and Middle Eastern countries.

"The ups and downs in the economic conditions in the destination countries of exports are beyond our control or control and cannot be avoided. However, things like this are of course taken into account in risk management," Bob said through his official statement, quoted Monday (27) / 5).

Of the total shipments of 61,600 units, the largest contributor is still held by the Fortuner Sport Utility Vehicle (SUV) model with 14,400 units or 23 percent.

The amount of Fortuner was followed by Rush 12,600 units or 20 percent, while Agya had 10,800 units or 10 percent.

Other models continue to contribute, including 7,500 Vios units, 8,400 Avanza units, Innova, Sienta, Yaris, and Town Ace / Lite Ace with a total volume of 7,900 units.

Bob said that even though in the first four months Toyota was in an unfavorable condition, it would not have an impact on the revised export target.

Bob explained that the total export target in the form of CBU during 2019 rose five percent from the achievement of 2018. Toyota's CBU export achievement in 2018 reached 206,600 units, up four percent from 2017 which stopped at 199,600 units.

"There has been no correction in the export target. We are still optimistic that the target of growth above five percent can be achieved," Bob said.

He added that to realize this target, his party had prepared a strategy through the addition of export destination countries for this year.

"Starting in the middle of this year, there will be an expansion of exports to several new destination countries in the Central American region. Coupled with requests for fleet orders from Middle Eastern countries are expected to help achieve the set targets," concluded Bob.
